Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the dramaturgy of the Lėlė theatre, its variations during the five decades of existence. The variety of authors, styles and movements in the repertoire of the theatre reflects not only the changes of the time, but also the specific attributes of the puppet theater as a genre. The demand of the puppet theatre corrects the definition of the dramaturgy genre, taking into consideration the polysemantic possibilities of the puppet stage expressions and conventions of this type of theater. One of the most salient tendencies of the dramaturgy for the puppet stage is the reduction of this literary genre to its complete dissolution or transfer to the director’s-artist’s “dramaturgy” of visual expressions. This process is clearly visible in all three staging versions of “Eglė žalčių karalienė” (“Egle, the Queen of Snakes”). Paradoxically, at the same time the dramaturgy for the puppet theatre stage was created by the celebrated Lithuanian poets and writers such as S. Geda, M. Martinaitis, V. Žilinskaitė and others, in collaboration with the director-artist V. Mazūras.
