Summary/Abstract: This paper considers the main approaches to the definition of the concept “region”. The scientific research of this term is supposed to reveal the tendency to sophistication of the concept “region” due to the emphasizing the subjective elements in it`s structure. The author concludes about the importance of the ideas of constructivism in the ontological status of region as well as the relevancy of the material factor in the conceptualization of the region.
