Summary/Abstract: In the article is examined Euthymius’ reform of Bulgarian letters and orthography based on the textual accounts available to us. The point of article is to examine and analyze these textual accounts and to attempt to reconstruct Euthymius’ motives for undertaking his orthographic and literary reform. There are two extant accounts which must be examined in detail: Grigorij Camblak’s „Слово похвално“ and Konstantin Kostenechki's „Сказание изьявленно о писменех“.
