Summary/Abstract: This research work aims at revealing the generally accepted orthographic features involved in the characteristic of the ancient damaskins – Bulgarian manuscripts from the end of the 16th century to the end of the 18th century. The language features in the copies of damaskins presented here to a large extent illustrate the type of written Bulgarian language during this historical period and are connected with its stylistics. Special emphasis has been laid on the fact that the common dominates over the particular and the specific. Yet each work from this ancient cycle is written in a peculiar fashion although all of them keep to the standards of the language that is regarded as “late post-Euthymius medieval Bulgarian” or “the old language of damaskins” and each of these damaskins in its own way stands close to what has been generally accepted.
