Summary/Abstract: The participation and involvement of the Russian ortopaedic and trauma surgeons, during the period of the Russian-Ottoman war, is explored, in order to highlight their influence upon post-war perspectives and development of Ortopaedics and Traumatology in Bulgaria as an independent state. General Surgery and Ortopaedics in the Principaiity state of Bulgaria commence their development based on the abandoned war-time infirmaries, which after the disengagement of the military, turn themselves into public hospitals. For the first time, the author pays greater and more special attention towards the presence and activity of the German surgeon Prof. Ernst von Bergmann, one of the most prominent and renowned surgeons of the Nineteenth century. The activity of Dr. Hristo Tantilov has also been profoundly impersonated in this article. Dr. Tantilov had specialized Ortopaedics in London and Paris and after that he headed the first Department of Ortopaedics at Alexandrovska Hospital in Sofia.
