DIGITIZATION IN ARCHIVE OF TUZLA CANTON

Summary/Abstract: In the accordance with modern trends of internationa archival practice the Archive of Tuzla Canton had started a process of hybrid archiving its archive fonds. It is a pioneer step, by which archival branch of Bosnia and Herzegovina wants to catch up with trends in neighbouring countries as well as rest of the world. Basic intent was to protect documentation in conventional form and create database in electronic form, in order to enable simpler and faster use of information that these fonds contain. Even though beginnings were modest, results are already visible, especially considering the publication ,, Tuzlanski, bijeljinski i srebrenički sidžil (1641.-1883.)" (Sigil of Tuzla, Bijeljina and Srebrenica courts), less then two months after hybrid archiving started. That is concrete evidence of project's necessity.Offer from the foreign company ,,Mikrografija" Novo Mesto to continue these activities is especially positive. Considering huge interest from researchers and public for archival material located in the Archive of Tuzla Canton there is no doubt that these activities will be continued, with final goal to provide unhampered access to informations that the Archive holds.
