Summary/Abstract: The personality of the scholar Macarie, the bishop who from the command of Peter Rareş wrote a chronicle in slavonic, is generally well known, although there remain many aspects of his life and work that requires a reevaluation from many points of view (historiographical, documentary). According to that idea, this text focuses on the period when Macarie was abbot of the Neamţ Monastery, who is placed, by the author of this lines, between years 1522/ 1523-1527. Also, this study shows that in 1527, at the beginning of the reign of Peter Rareş, the hieromonk of the Neamţ Monastery was transferred as abbot in the Bistriţa Monastery, where he remained until 23 april 1531, when he become bishop. Consequently, the writing of the chronicle was entrusted to the abbot of Bistriţa at shortly after 20 January 1527, when was the beginning of the reign of Peter Rareş, but before 15 March 1527, when at Neamţ Monastery was installed, already, another abbot. Also, the study focuses on the period when the bishop of Roman not was in his dignity, because he was removed from the seat of the bishop by Iliaş Rareş, as a result of the opposition manifested to the fiscal policy excessive of voïvode. That time not coincide with the years 1548-1551, how Macarie said in his chronicle, because a document of 21 March 1551 shows that the bishop of Roman was in your seat of hierarch, so his dismissal should be placed after this date
