Summary/Abstract: Population processes in the Republic of Tatarstan are analyzed in the article on the basis of statistical data for the period from the beginning of the 21th century till present. The nature of the changes in the demographic behavior of the Republic’s population is determined. The conclusion is made that the overall picture of the demographic processes cannot be uniquely defined due to the presence of differently directed trends. Despite the maintenance of crisis phenomena, the reasons for restrained optimism have appeared. There is a fundamental change in the reproduction processes, which consists in the fact that since 2011 the Republic’s population has grown due to natural causes, and the urban population (predominantly the citizens of the capital) has played the key role in this process.
