Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we reveal the collective images of “insiders” and “outsiders” in the space of ethnocultural and social relations in the region on the basis of a representative sociological survey among the population of the Republic of Tatarstan. We identify specific features of the attitude towards the representatives of other ethnic groups, migrants of nonlocal nationalities from other regions of Russia, and migrants from the states of Central Asia and the Caucasus. We reveal territorial, ethnic and other differences in the perception of the outgroups by Tatarstan’s residents and examine the influence of first-hand experience of communication with migrants on the spread of xenophobia.
