Summary/Abstract: The article presents an attempt to grasp the early moments of Hannah Arendt’s thought, undoubtedly salient for her later work. The years 1930–1933 – the short period immediately before the rise of Arendt’s political awareness and her subsequent exile – form an important stage in her intellectual development. In 1931 Arendt reviewed Hans Weil’s Die Entstehung des deutschen Bildungsprinzips (The Emergence of the German Principle of “Bildung”). The book proved particularly important in the context of German discussion of the idea of Bildung. Arendt’s evaluation with the background of her wider interests of this period as well as the historical context of the Jewish question cast some light upon her early exercises in understanding and the gradual formation of mature and genuine approach.
