Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses the characteristics of the status and general condition of archival material of religious communities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and about the factors which have impact on that condition. Most attention is devoted to the status of archival material of religious communities at the time of the socialist development of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the changes that occurred after the collapse of socialism and the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the first phase generally everything was unified (regulations and their enforcement), while in the second phase (from 1992) caused some positive changes in the spirit of European archival practices. However, this process of transition in Bosnia and Herzegovina takes place in very difficult circumstances: over the four-year war cataclysm (1992-1995) to the post-war complex administrative and political realignment.
