Summary/Abstract: Is it difficult to be an artist in the era of post-Postmodernism? Is there any room for art in the crowd of icons, designs, and ideologies? The development of new technologies is connected with the development of mass media. Willing or not, we should accept the new aspects of the reality. Contemporary wars basically are medial. Of course, people die not only on the screens of our television sets. On fact, they die not only in wars, but, also, during sporting games and popular street parades. Accidents happen to people because of their lack of imagination. We not only are the witnesses of events, but, also, the participants. Viola Tycz is interested in different aspects of the reality. She concentrates on social issues and doesn’t like conventional artistic forms. She likes provocation. The series of her graphic pictures reveals her interest in such subjects as death and agony, war and love. She shows her intimate visions of the reality. In 2002, she received a scholarship from the Polar and Joan Miro Foundation, and The Sotheby Majorca. As the result of her scholarship, she produced the “Puzzle 4U”. She often produces para- hyper-realistic e3ffects. She exposes slides onto canvases and meticulously copies the details. The Impart Gallery in Wroclaw showed her installation entitled “Cyber Tyczne”. It included three columns with images of computer parts. In 2003, the Forum Gallery in Wroclaw and the GSP Arsenal Gallery in Poznan showed Tycz’s hyper realistic pictures, which referred to classical paintings, supermarket and fast food restaurant designs (for example, “The Last Supper at a Fast Food Restaurant”). In 2002, Tycz organised a Sound System Performance at the BWA Gallery in Zielona Gora. In 2003, she established a “Reactor Contemporary Art Centre”. They organised a show entitled “I RAK” at the BWA Gallery In Wroclaw.
