Summary/Abstract: There are words in the Lithuanian language showing a tendency of unsettled accentuation. The real usage does not always support a codified accentuation norm. With reference to systemisation requirements and the tendencies of actual usage, the State Commission of the Lithuanian Language corrected the accentuation norms of certain simple nouns, among them the nouns kardas, šalmas, šarvas. As a rule, the previous linguistic literature and dictionaries used to record the variants of the words under analysis with an acute root belonging to accentual paradigm (3) only. However, the variants with a circumflex root of accentual paradigm (4) are also very common in the language...
