Summary/Abstract: Osteoporosis (OP) is a metabolic bone disease that reduces the quality of life and can increase the risk of mortality. It typically occurs after the age of 45 and worsens over time Risk factors in addition to age are the lack of vitamin D, an inactive lifestyle, poor nutrition, smoking and alcohol use. Because the lack of vitamin D is a huge OP risk factor, people who are at a greater risk of vitamin D deficiency should take vitamin D supplements to minimize that risk. Preventive precautions, such as lowering these risk factors, could be helpful in controlling the disease. High treatment costs make OP a major concern for both patients and healthcare providers. Patient awareness about the disease could increase both adaptationto treatment and quality of life. And it is important to increase the awareness of OP via informative meetings and workshop activities that may help in screening individuals who are at greater risk of developing OP before osteoporotic fractures occur.
