SELF-OBSERVATION OF CONTEMPORARY SCIENCE: NUMBERS’ LOOK

Summary/Abstract: In metareflection on scientific research sociological and bibliometric means of scientometrics have recently gained a dominant position over traditional methodology, epistemology and philosophy of science. Some see it as hope to the improvement management of science and a chance to rise its level, others as a threat to freedom of scientific research and traditional academic values, especially in the case of the humanities. In the article, I reconstruct scientometric discourse, trying to register it in a wider theoretical and philosophical context in order to build the basis to understand the actual role and perspectives of this discipline.
