Summary/Abstract: In the past twenty years we can observe a significant methodological change in the attitude to the studies on Russian literature. It manifests itself in two aspects: – The area of interest changes; before, the studies on 18th and 19th century were dominant, now dominant are issues of 20th century. It results from the fact that in the past there were a lot of things one could not speak about, but, as it seems, it is only partly true because the expectations towards science and popular science research changed. They are to answer our contemporary condition, help to understand the world here and now.– It is now visible striving for the comprehensive analysis which combine particular areas of art, history, politics and man’s cultural activity. In the methodology of research on Russian literature and culture three tendencies were dominant: 1) Filling the gapes in knowledge of historical and literary processes in Russia (lexicographic and school-bookish works); 2) The analysis of particular works and types of works, memories of authentic Polish- Russia relations; 3) Beginnings of studies on middle-of-the-road literature, i.e. Russian popular literature which is increasingly read, searched and desired in Poland. The author gives examples from these three areas and shows changes in the analysis methodology of Russian literature in the past twenty years.
