Summary/Abstract: The authors of the article conducted an analysis of determinants of net interest margin in Poland in the period 2010–2015. The scope of sample and research period were determined by the fact that this period was characterized by a huge decrease of NIM. Based on the litarature review, determinants of NIM were divided into two groups: micoeconomic factors and macroeconomic factors. The data used in the study were obtained from Bancsope database (for commercial banks) and Bank BPS S.A.’s database (for cooperative banks). The quantitative study (panel analysis) also indicates that there is a relevant difference between cooperative and commercial banks in the case of NIM determinants. However, the research also indicates that an important determinant of NIM in both groups is a level of short term interest rate. This result should be treated as an important guide in the process of conducting of monetary policy.
