Summary/Abstract: This paper addresses the problem of mortality form the life course perspective. We analyze events occurred in the life course, including the period from early childhood to the last year of life. Using the panel data from the Survey on Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe, the authors examine the impact of the events from the past on the risk of death conditional on survival till the age of 50 in the proportional hazards model. The results indicate a significant influence of the material situation in childhood measured with the number of rooms in the family home at the age of 10, regular medical care including dental care and blood tests in adulthood as well as periods of ill health after 15th year of life on the risk of death for people aged at least 50.
