Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the physical activity of people over the age of 50 in international comparison (selected European countries and the US). The analysis explores longitudinal and cohort dimentions of the SHARE and HRS databases. The influence of current and past physical activity on the functional status of individuals 50+ is analyzed with particular emphasis on the last year of life. The results indicate that Europeans aged 50+ are more physically active than individuals living in the US. Physical activity of people aged 50+ in Poland is the lowest of the analyzed European countries. Physically active individuals experience fewer difficulties in daily life living in the last year of life than the inactive, which results increased self-reliance and reduced need need for care.
