Summary/Abstract: The emergence of low cost operators has improved transport accessibility to many European regions that were previously considered peripheral. The aim of the article was to present the market of low-cost operators in Europe, learn about the preferences concerning travelling with low-cost airlines and create a profile of a low-cost airlines user. The most popular and unwavering positions on the European market are occupied by Ryanair and EasyJet and the weakest position among the top five lines is taken by WizzAir. The research conducted in 2015 confirmed presented trends. The biggest success, among the operators that are chosen most often, is enjoyed by Ryanair (46%), and WizzAir (42%). Among the respondents, the largest group were people travelling with low-cost airlines 1-2 times a year − 35%, and less than once a year (30%), travelling mainly for holiday. The most important reasons for the selection of specific airlines were − firstly, the ticket price, then network of connections and the location of airports. As many as 69% of travellers confirmed that since the emergence of low-cost airlines on the Polish market their frequency of travelling increased.
