Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is identification of the process of creation and diffusion of knowledge in professional service units operating within the network. The paper consists of theoretical, methodological and empirical parts. The study was based on 6 units with direct professional services, 2 (leader and market pretender) representing the three subsectors – medical services, financial advisory, and research. In research was used a multiple-case study method. The analyzes carried out show that the leaders acquire knowledge from the environment in wide scale, in particular foreign environment. They protect they own knowledge. Leaders acquire also knowledge from the network, but they don’t want to share it with other partners in the network. On the other hand, pretenders acquire knowledge mainly from the local market, and protection of knowledge is rather limited. Pretenders in turn willing share acquired knowledge and invest in experienced partners in the network, while the leaders prefer to focus on attracting new partners.
