Summary/Abstract: This text aims to analyze South Africa as emerging middle power with special emphasis on its foreign policy. Concept of middle power, which has been developed during cold war era, was reaction to foreign policies of Canada, Australia and Norway. “Middlepowermanship” behavior included internationalization of norms and bridge-building policy between the East and West. After the Cold War, the group of middle powers changed dramatically and became more expansive thanks to the so-called emerging middle powers. South Africa is mentioned as a new member of this group and its behavior is characterized by some “middlepowermanship” features. The article is divided into two parts. The first offers a theoretical framework and defines some of the key terms like middle power, emerging middle power, regional power and its main features. The second focuses on the South African foreign-policy activities since 1994.
