Summary/Abstract: This study aims to analyze acedia in the view of some representative Fathers and writers of Syriac tradition. Although for many persons the term acedia is unfamiliar, the reality revealed by this word has great relevance for contemporary man. Acedia is a state which, if we ignore, we expose ourselves to a huge danger. The demon of acedia continues to be present and to work in the world, because acedia is related to the human condition itself. Acedia is an evil of all times. Even though our study includes writings of monks for monks, acedia represents a danger for all Christians. For various historical, political and ecclesiastical reasons, Syriac spiritual literature is less known in Romanian theological space. This study proposes an encounter with the beauty of Syriac thought regarding a current topic for any Christian that takes seriously his spiritual life.
