Summary/Abstract: In the first part of the article brought closer to the concept, importance and determinants affecting local development in terms of social and economic. In the second part of the article are presented selected results of empirical studies that have been conducted in May and June 2012. The study included municipalities, rural and urban-rural Wielkopolska province. The aim of that paper is to present selected socio-economic factors affecting the development of communities in Poland on the example of the Wielkopolska region. The study (a questionnaire) was performed at the administrative level – municipalities.
