Summary/Abstract: The only enslaved ethnic communities from the Principality of Moldavia in the XIV–XV centuries were the Gypsies and the Tartars since there are documents that prove this. The Bulgarian slaves are mentioned just in one document. The problem of the appearance of gypsies and tartars in medieval Moldova is still disputed in national and foreign historiographies. The issue of their enslavement is also disputed. However, many researchers also mention that the problem of Gypsy slaves is not so studied nowadays, because there are few sources about their history as a whole. The study generally presents the first documentary and narrative sources about these two ethnicities in medieval oldova and the controversies in historiography about them.
