Summary/Abstract: Before the Second World War the level of electrification of what was to be Western Pomerania after the war was much higher than in other Polish regions. The differences were even bigger in the rural areas. In the aftermath of the war and as a result of the post- war devastation the energetic infrastructure was reduced even more. In spite of a relatively good initial situation the return to the pre- war state and a full electrification of the villages in Western Pomerania required a lot of capital investment and the task was fraught with difficulties. The whole process had a political dimension, too. The authorities hoped that thanks to the improvement of living conditions of the rural population that section of society would support the socialist regime. Together with electrification it became easier to reach the inhabitants of the rural areas with the propaganda message.
