The state-of-the-art in ecological agriculture research in Poland

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to discuss the most important economic research problems and results in ecological agriculture in Poland. Two stages of the research have been distinguished: until 2004 year, i.e. until the integration with the European Union and after this period. In the second period characterised by the dynamic development of ecological agriculture the most important results of the four main research problems undertaken on the ecological agriculture have been considered: ecological agriculture and conventional agriculture in the context of sustainable development, economic effectiveness of ecological farms in comparison to conventional farms, public support of ecological agriculture and tendencies in the development of ecological agriculture in Poland. The article shows the lack of research on such subjects as: distribution of products of ecological agriculture, level of prices and price relations in direct selling, cooperation of ecological producers and the possibilities of its activation as the condition of market power strengthening.
