Agriculture in the sustainable development of the EU

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article was to evaluate the development of the share of agrienvironmental payments in the value of total agricultural subsidies across the EU in 2007- -2013. Division for EU-15 countries and EU-12 countries was adopted. The study involved 27 representative farms for agriculture in EU countries in 2007-2013. The analysis was based on EUFADN data. It was shown that there were no statistically significant differences between the average value of shares of agrienvironmental payments in the value of total agricultural subsidies between the countries of EU-15 and countries of EU-12. Therefore we rejected the hypothesis of the article which spoke that the share of agri-environmental payments in the total value of payments were higher in the EU-15 than the EU-12. Considerable variation in the shares of agrienvironmental payments in the value of total agricultural subsidies between countries the EU-27 was showed. In shaping this diversity the importance of factors such as natural conditions or tailoring agrienvironmental payments to the needs of farmers was accentuated.
