Summary/Abstract: Economic growth theory describes the behavior of the economy in the long run, and therefore it can be used as a tool for the analysis of sustainability issues. Previous works show the key role of technical progress in sustaining growth with the constraint of natural resources. Therefore, the most promising are endogenous models in which the rate of technological progress is determined within the model. The goal of the study is to review the basic assumptions of Schumpeterian growth model and to use it as a framework for the analysis of selected sustainability issues, i.e. the ability of the economy to sustain growth under resource constraint and the relation between growth and the level of environmental pollution. Section I discusses the basic assumptions of the model. Section 2 discusses the impact of natural resources scarcity on the long-term growth rate, as well as the conditions for improving the environment while maintaining economic growth. In section 3 we put the problem of dynamic optimization taking into account the state of the environment in the utility function and the natural resources in the production function. Some remarks about the difficulties arising from the model assumptions are added at the end.
