Summary/Abstract: The article treats an interpretation of a picture of the world functioning in the women’s technological community. The analyzed empirical material is in the field of traditional textile technology as an unspecia1ized craft, namely processing of textile materials, their real and symbolic usage. The textile materials are interpreted as elements of the world’s structure and mark it vertically. They serve as reference points in the relation “nature–culture”, eliminating the tension of the contrast by creating the so called “culture of nature”. Classified on a more general ideological base, they themselves start to function as classifiers. They prove to be in several aspects depending on their investigation in the light of certain categories: biological, topological, technological, etc. Traditional technology can be interpreted as a mechanism of transmitting a certain concept about the universe. The study shows that this concept is a version of the folklore model, in which a more ancient stage of the traditional worldview is kept and actualized.
