Summary/Abstract: Nowadays innovation is becoming one of the key challenges facing enterprises today. Innovative companies are considered those which are characterized by their ability to create new products, introduction of new technologies or methods of organization. They are also these companies that are able to adapt extremely quickly to changes taking place in their environment. Although the direct basis for enterprise innovation are their resources, it is an increasingly important role played by the external environment which can have a significant impact on the level of innovation. This article presents a fragment of the results of studies on the evaluation of individual environmental factors that stimulate or inhibit the development of innovation in selected small and medium-sized enterprises.
