Joachim Bielski`s alcaic poem (Carmen 3, 1) to Sigismund III Vasa

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the contents and the artistic skill of the language used by the author of the alcaic poem (Carmen 3, 1), Joachim Bielski (ca. 1550 – 1599), a representative of the, so called, neo-Latin literature. Joachim Bielski intended his poem to be expressive praise of the king. That is why he used the method of panegyrical exaggeration. Polite phrases served the purpose of description of the situation of Poland whose southern boundaries Tartars and Turks attacked in 1589. There is a distinct predilection to strong language and real life events taken from the historical circumstances.
