Summary/Abstract: The Department of Ukrainian Studies of the University of Warsaw has a long-lasting history of teaching Ukrainian language and culture. It was founded in 1953 and is the oldest center of Ukrainian studies in Poland. In the academic year 2012/2013, it introduced English and Russian languages as an obligatory part of the new curriculum at both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Russian language is taught in a large variety of subject – from practical classes to theoretical lectures. These items are conventionally referred to as the "Russian module". The aim of such a diverse program is teaching students a large variety of general and special vocabulary in order to allow them to achieve fluency in the widest number of communicational situations by giving them enough linguistic competence in these domains. This article focuses on students from Ukraine, discusses their reasons for studying in Poland and the differences in their fluency in the Russian language as well as it shows their problems of linguistic interference resulting from the convergence of Russian, Ukrainian and Polish languages
