Summary/Abstract: Relation between the art and the truth is one of the main questions of our general relation to the tradition of metaphysical thinking. Thereby, question of art, primarily painting, was tied to it’s traditional determination as mimetic, representational activity. On example of dissimilar «readings» of one Van Gogh’s well-known painting which presents a pair of peasant shoes, on one side, and another painting of shoes, Andy Warhol’s Dimond Dust Shoes, on the other, this paper specifies differences between the modern and post-modern art that are created as consequence of changes in objective world of reality (logic of market capital development), and within the subject (waning of affect and emotional experience). While the work of art of high-modernism is anchored in thematics of time and temporality, the other is facing toward experience of everyday life, toward space and presence. The depth of meaning of the first painting was replaced by sheer surface of the other where everything is set in a single plane that no longer can be conceived by the established categories of metaphysics.
