Summary/Abstract: The author attempts at comparing Polish and German theories of writing regional literary history. As a starting point, she outlines the historical background and changes of a concept of literary regionalism in 19th and 20th century. In the second part of the article, the author considers a model of local literary history based on new regionalism theory and she takes up a problem of relations between national and regional literary history. She carries an analysis of main elements of that literary history paradigm: the place of the subject in narration, the subject’s connection with the region, the sociological and cultural terms used in the narration and the assumed aims of regional literary history. In the last part of the article Maj the author tries to collect Polish and German contemporary examples of regional literary history. She looks for a dominant of some genre in this enumeration and she recognizes the forms of essay and essayistic encyclopedia as the main ways of constructing the local literary history nowadays.
