Determinants and Directions of the Functional and Spatial Transformations in the Areas of Seaport Bulk Cargo Handling (Illustrated with an Example of Katowicki Peninsula in the Port of Szczecin)

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the determinants of transformations occurring in the bulk cargo handling areas in the modern seaports. With regard to the port of Szczecin, which has been analyzed in detail, the article aims at developing an optimal solution for the development of port activities in the area of Katowicki Peninsula which, up until now, has been undeveloped. It’s question of taking future directions in relation to the investment policy for this area in the port of Szczecin and indicating one of the two alternatives, i.e. either development of a new, deep-water Dąbrowieckie quay or thorough modernization of the existing Katowicki quay and Chorzowskie quay along with adjusting them to the new depth of Świnoujście–Szczecin waterway (12.5 m).
