Summary/Abstract: This study aims to examine the impact of trade openness and inflation on income distribution over the period 1981-2011 for Turkey. The proportion of foreign trade volume (exports plus imports) to GDP and Gini coefficient are used as measures of trade openness and income distribution besides inflation rate. After we determine that series have the same order of stationary; Johansen cointegration test and VECM are applied to see long-run and short-run relationships. As a result of the analysis, causality from trade openness and inflation to income inequality is determined for both short and long-run. The reducing effect of inflation and trade openness on income inequality is detected by means of impulse-response functions. As a result of variance decomposition analysis, the fact that 36 percent of the effect on income inequality are caused by itself while 53 percent and 10 percent of the effect are respectively caused by inflation and trade openness is determined.
