Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses a group of nominal modifiers referred to as Functional Adjectives. The paper concentrates on one subset of functional adjectives, i.e. the English identity adjectives same, different and other, based on the literature. Thus, same and different belong to a functional category degree rather than the lexical category adjective while the unique properties of other are attributed to a more determiner- like functional category in the DP. The paper finds further evidence to support this approach in the syntax and semantics of Romanian constructions with diferit, același, and alt.
