Religiousness of Solidarity as Seen by a Sociologist

Summary/Abstract: The author analyses the phenomenon of „Solidarity” in view of Christian spiritualism. E. Ciżewska claims that the emergence of “Solidarity” increased the religiousness among Poles, including people not formerly connected with the Church. Despite the fact that the sociological analysis reveals many important phenomena such as social bonds, it is not sufficient for describing the social and individual sphere in Poland during the 1980s. The key issue of “Solidarity” concerns an individual’s struggle with freedom.
