A reflection of current political events in modern media word creation

Summary/Abstract: The article analyses media innovations, reflecting the contemporary Ukrainian reality, gives structural-semantic and functional characteristics of methods used for word formation on this subject. The most productive usual and non-usual methods are described: suffixation, prefixation, word compounding, mixed affixal and complex affixal means; contamination, substitional word-building and holophrases. Non-usual innovations possess a special expressive evaluation, which can be close to speech aggression. New word-building nests are created on the basis of key words and expressive innovations, reflecting a controversial worldview of the contemporary Ukrainian reality.
