Summary/Abstract: Local (endogenous) factors are important elements in the development of cities. Today, many cities look at local traditions and identity as well as local natural and social potential as a source of ideas for shaping a new, unique image of the city, its promotion and future development. This paper focuses on highlighting the role that endogenous factors have in the development of a city on the example of two chosen urban units: Uniejów, located in Łódź voivodship, and Dąbie in Wielkopol-ska voivodship. The choice was guided, on the one hand, by similarity of their natural conditions, and on the other – by a significant difference in their socio-economic development. Endogenous capital is mainly identified as the historical and the social potential.
