Summary/Abstract: Two books compared in this article are two different methods of transmitting historical knowledge. On the one hand, Polish historian Jan M. Piskorski presents people, traditions and cultures in perspective of European migrations in the twentieth century. On the other hand, Musekamp, historian from Germany, focuses on the postwar history of Szczecin, a city with multicultural an international tradition that needs to specify its identity. Both approaches can be considered as a part of reflection on culture of modern-day Europe.
