Summary/Abstract: German language has been strongly influenced by various languages. First of all, borrowings from Latin and French should be mentioned. The influences of the Arabic language, however, also played a significant role. The paper presents and offers a description of words of Arabic origin in three German dictionaries of borrowings: WIEDEMANN (1811), WANDER (1858), KÖHLER (1882). As it turns out, in modern etymological dictionaries most of these words are not treated as borrowings which entered German directly from Arabic.
