Summary/Abstract: The article presents and describes the motives for fighting against loanwords in specialist germanising dictionaries published in 1800-1945. Apart from that, the following motives appear in purist specialist lexicographic studies: cultural-patriotic (kulturpatriotische Motive), communicative (kommunikative Motive), criticizing language snobbism (verhaltenskritische Motive), esthetic (ästhetische Motive), cognitive (kognitive/erkenntnistheoretische Motive), structural (sprachstrukturelle Motive) and enlightening (bildungspraktische/aufklärerische Motive
