Summary/Abstract: Jürg Amann, a Swiss writer, literary scholar, dramatist and publicist who died in 2013, introduced in his various literary texts the issues of the contemporary world with man lost in it. The subjects of his works were: politics (war in the Persian Bay); history (death camp Auschwitz); literature (literary bio-graphies of Kafka, Goethe, and Novalis); culture and religion (the New Testament), and various universal issues (love, death, friendship, hope, despair). The individual, placed at the centre, was entangled in historical and social relations, would lose his way, was filled with internal contradiction, but also would continue his search for everlasting values. Although Jürg Amann is well-known and received by the German speaking readers as is shown by the numerous awards he has received, his work is almost unknown to Polish consumers because of a lack of translations. The article attempts to bridge the gap and bring the work of Jürg Amann closer to Polish speaking readers.
