Summary/Abstract: The article describes the considerations associated with the development of tourism, the tourist traffic and leisure on suburban areas, based on the literature of the subject matter and on the results of the original research carried out. It was assumed that the core issues of the study would be – identification of current tourist and leisure distinguished features on the reception areas of tourist traffic in the suburban municipalities and identification of trends of tourism development in these areas, in the opinion of their inhabitants, tourist operators doing business within their boundaries, and finally tourists and visitors. Particular attention was also paid to the correlation indicated by the respondents priorities of tourism development in suburban areas with intentions in this regard of governing bodies (municipal authorities) and to define – on that basis, synthetic conclusions. Survey results show the significant dispersion of the indications defining the outstanding in the suburban municipalities – areas, facilities, buildings or equipment marked by residents, tourists and entrepreneurs, as distinctive or dominant tourist products. Simultaneously, it is noted that, determined by the local authorities, intentions, with regard to the development of tourism and recreation in suburban areas, remain only slightly in correlation with the opinions of the surveyed groups: residents, tourists and entrepreneurs.
