Summary/Abstract: The Church is a living and dynamic community, which is why it cannot be passive when facing the phenomena which exist in the orbit of its activity. The problems which are evoked in this context become very specific challenges as well as “signs of the times” for the Church. One of the areas in which the Church takes a specific position is related to the increasingly expansive phenomenon of sects, which disorganize the life of Christian families. Since the year 1989, it has been observed that new religious movements and sects are significantly more active in Poland. Between 1987 and 1996 there was a great growth in the number of sects. This is also the consequence of liberalisation in relations to many civil rights norms. Usually, what is new is more attractive and appealing to people. In this context we should explain why sects are so popular, especially amongst youth. We should be aware that there is a real danger that young people can become addicted to the destructive impact of sects. That is why it is necessary to get to know the psychological, sociological and religious conditions which are responsible for people’s becoming involved in sects. Sects triumph when the Church or the society (families) cannot cater for real and important needs of people who are searching.
