Summary/Abstract: Waldo Frank (1889-1967) was, between the twenties and sixties, an interlocutor of Latin American intelligentsia. In this essay I want to describe his function as a counterpart to some of the great figures of Latin American intellectuals of the time: Alfonso Reyes, José Carlos Mariátegui, Victoria Ocampo, Pedro Henríquez Ureña, among others. Despite closeness (both cultural and intellectual), his condition as an American citizen, forced his relocation in the dialogue (to expand or to redefine the scopes of cultural policies that were designed and implemented in those days), and to rethink Latin American condition from other parameters.
