Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to present the purposes and assumptions of the “Europe 2020” strategy in the context of its influence on the new philosophy of existing structural funds in regional policy. Such an aim suggests distinguishing two appropriately devoted areas: (1)„Europe 2020” strategy and its’ three areas of growth (intelligence, sustainability and social integration) and (2) structural funds in the regional policy for years 2014–2020. The “new” regional policy „on the supranational and national level” considers the aims and assumptions of the „Europe 2020” strategy and its’ programs which is peculiarly visible in the „Digital Europe” and „Innovation Union” programs. These programs are “dynamizing” the current areas of support by structural funds especially with reference to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (EFS). In this way through the „Europe 2020” strategy and fund’s instruments has an influence on the knowledge based economy which has become an objective obligation apparent in the era of globalization.
