Summary/Abstract: Ornaments, regardless of the historical period in which they were made and exhibited, had the gift to immediately draw attention. With this text we intend to analyze a special category of artifacts – the Neolithic and Eneolithic ornaments discovered in the Romanian space. Even if chronological and geographical framework is wide, we consider necessary the elaboration of an encompassing repertoire, where ornaments made of gold, copper and other materials (shell, bone, horn, etc.) are gathered together. If about gold pieces and brass can be said that we gathered them all in the repertoire, the same thing can’t be said about ornaments made of other materials (in Annex 7 were especially gathered ornaments discovered in necropolises and some ornaments discovered in settlements, so from this point of view we know the limits).Data for these artifacts (and the ones included in the annex) were collected from the special literature; spatial distribution of ornaments had an important role in the analysis. We believe that the functionality of ornaments analyzed, besides their ornamental value, was symbolic as well; depending on contexts and combinations, the ornaments were signs of social prestige for their owners (aspect most obvious in funeral practices and hoards/deposits).
